nonprofit organization

OUR MISSION
We are dedicated to nurturing a generation of compassionate leaders.
Our mission is to inspire young individuals to engage in service that fosters empathy, kindness, and social change.
Through critical service learning, mindfulness and seva (selfless service) we strive to create a community where every youth is encouraged to advocate for a more just and equitable society.
OUR VISION
We envision a world where every young person is empowered to practice mindful compassion, grow through meaningful service and become an advocate for justice in their community.
OUR VALUES
At The Brown Bag Project, our values guide everything we do—from how we pack each bag to how we show up for one another.
Rooted in compassion, equity, and youth empowerment, these principles reflect the heart of our mission: building mindful connections and stronger communities through service.

Mindfulness
We slow down to pay attention—with care, intention, and presence. From packing bags to serving meals, mindfulness shapes how we connect with others and ourselves.

Belonging
We create spaces where all people—youth, families, and neighbors—feel included and valued. Community isn’t something we serve; it’s something we are.

Youth Voice
Young people aren’t just volunteers—they’re leaders, learners, and changemakers. We nurture their voices, ideas, and growth through service that matters.

Equity
We recognize systemic injustice and respond with compassion and action. Our programs center those most impacted and invite youth to be part of real change.

Dignity First
Everyone deserves to feel seen and respected. We honor each person’s humanity—meeting needs without judgment and uplifting each other’s worth.

Seva
Seva means selfless service. It's not a one-time act, but a way of life—cultivating awareness, empathy, and responsibility in our daily actions.
